Portraits

Paintings of the places and animals you love

I’m a self-taught artist based in Staffordshire, and I paint commissioned portraits of buildings and animals: the family home, the venue where you got married, your business premises, or the dog who rules the house. Each piece is hand-painted, hand-drawn or a blend of both, using the best quality materials, and made to be treasured.

I work closely with you from the first conversation to the day it goes up on your wall, so the finished painting captures exactly what makes that place or animal special to you.

You enjoy the destination, whilst I enjoy the journey.

I have a deep passion for architecture, from cosy family homes to majestic castles, and love capturing the craftsmanship and character that make a building yours.

Fur

There’s a special connection between people and animals. They can’t tell us how they feel, but they say plenty through their body language and temperament, and that’s what I set out to capture.

How a commission works

  1. Get in touch. Ask me anything or request a quote, with no obligation. We’ll talk through size, pose and style, and any date you need it by, like a birthday or anniversary.
  2. Send me your photos. We’ll pick the best reference photo together. It can take a few emails to get right, but it’s well worth the effort.
  3. Mock-up and deposit. I’ll prepare a mock-up, and once you’re happy, a non-refundable deposit books your place in my diary and covers materials.
  4. Outline check. I’ll send you the outline so you can ask for tweaks, like the foliage on a building or the position of ears and legs. If I hit any hurdles along the way, I’ll be in touch straight away.
  5. Your finished painting. Once you’re delighted with it, collect it in person or have it delivered to your door.

Tips for great reference photos

Take several photos from different angles, close up, clear and in natural light, with no filters. A digital camera is ideal, but a phone is fine. For animals, show the lay of their fur; for buildings, include close-ups of key features.

Start your commission

Tell me what you’d like painted and I’ll get back to you with ideas and a quote. There’s no obligation to go ahead, and you can email me your photos once we’ve spoken.
